Along with the common people of Israel, the country’s workers are also protesting. However, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has already warned workers not to participate in the protest. He said that the workers who will participate in the strike will not be paid.

Israel has erupted in protests recently after the rescue of six more dead hostages in Gaza. Thousands of people took to the streets on Sunday (September 1) to demand that Hamas sign a cease-fire agreement and bring back the remaining hostages.

The country’s main labor union federation HISTRUT has called for a strike to increase pressure on the government for the same demand. Ben Gurion Airport will be closed from 8 a.m. local time Monday, the union said. It is known as Israel’s main air transport hub. If the airport is closed, all major sectors of the country’s economy, including banking and healthcare, may suffer.

However, Israel’s finance minister has threatened that he has instructed the relevant authorities not to pay anyone who joins the strike called by the Histadrut.

The far-right minister urged the court to stop the strike. He even accused Histadrut chairman Arnon Bar-David of working in the interest of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

“It saddens me to think that Arnon Bar-David is effectively working to fulfill Sinwar’s dream, instead of strengthening Israel’s economy, supporting business and supporting the military in these difficult times,” he said. He said the labor leader chose to represent the interests of Hamas instead of representing Israeli workers.

Earlier on Sunday night, there were reports of clashes between Israeli protesters and security forces. It was one of the largest anti-government protests in Israel since the war in Gaza began 11 months ago.

On this day, the protestors in the street ‘Now! Now!’ and demanded an immediate ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian group Hamas and the return of the remaining hostages.

Meanwhile, protesters blocked the streets of Tel Aviv and demonstrated outside Netanyahu’s office in West Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which represents the families of Israeli hostages in Gaza, said in a statement that the deaths of the six hostages were the result of the Netanyahu government’s “failure” to secure an agreement to end the war and bring their loved ones home.
