Sharadiya Durga Puja, one of the most significant religious festivals of the Hindu community, is being celebrated across Savar and the entire country with great devotion and religious fervor. On the occasion of Maha Saptami, devotees thronged the Puja Mandaps to offer prayers and worship to Goddess Durga.
The five-day long Durga Puja commenced last Sunday with Maha Shashthi Puja, amid the rhythmic beats of traditional Dhak, the resonance of Kansar ghanta, and the sound of sacred Shankha (conch shells). The festival will conclude on October 2 with the immersion of Goddess Durga on Bijoya Dashami.
According to the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council, this year Durga Puja is being held at 33,355 mandaps and temples across the country, including 258 in Dhaka city alone.
To ensure peaceful celebrations, special security measures have been taken nationwide, including in the capital. Alongside the police and RAB, volunteer groups are also actively serving at nearly every Puja Mandap.
At the Rajful Bariya Bazar, Shri Shri Ma Anandamoyi and Shoshan Kali Temple Mandaps in Savar, Committee President Dr. Narayan Chakraborty and General Secretary Manoranjan Karmakar (Mona) stated that, in addition to the rituals, devotional music programs, clothing distribution, Mahaprasad distribution, and Arati competitions have been organized.
Leaders of the local BNP unit of Phulbari Union were also present. BNP leader Mehedi Hasan visited the Puja Mandaps and inquired about the overall arrangements.
This year, Goddess Durga is believed to arrive on an elephant (Gaja) and depart on a palanquin (Dola). Her arrival on an elephant is considered highly auspicious, symbolizing peace, prosperity, and a bountiful harvest for the land.
