Oil tanker lost control in Gaibandha in river–1 youth pedestrian killed

 Gaibandha District Representative: An oil tanker lost control and sank in the river at Gobindganj in Gaibandha. A young pedestrian named Masud Mia (35) was killed in this incident. The incident took place at the Katakhali bridge of Gobindganj upazila on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway yesterday, Tuesday (23 May). The deceased is the son of Abdul Jalil of Ramnathpur village of Darbast Union of Mia Upazila. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindganj Highway Police Station Aminul Islam confirmed the matter.

According to police and local sources, an oil tanker coming from Bogra was heading towards Rangpur. When the truck reached the Katakhali bridge of Gobindganj on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway, the driver suddenly lost control and crushed the pedestrian Masud Mia and fell into the Katakhali river. Locals rescued Masud Mia in a serious condition and took him to Gobindganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors on duty declared him dead.

On receiving the information, police and fire service members rescued the boat from the river. Aminul Islam, OC of Gobindganj Highway Police Station said, after learning about the matter, the lorry was recovered and kept at the Highway Police Station with the help of fire service. The driver and his assistant fled immediately after the incident. Arif Anwar, Station Officer of Gobindganj Fire Service, said that the rescue team came from Rangpur and recovered the fire and kept it in the custody of Gobindganj Highway Police Station. There was no complaint in this regard at the police station. According to police sources, legal action will be initiated if complaints are received.
