Mohammad Masud Majumder:
The new committee of Barura Thana Press Club, a journalist organization of Barura Upazila of Cumilla, has been formed for the 2026-27 session. The committee was elected through voting at an auditorium of Barura Municipality on Saturday (January 3) at 3 pm.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Hossain served as the Chief Election Commissioner in the election. The election was held in a large presence of local journalists and the voting was completed in a fair and impartial environment.
Masud Majumder of Jay Jay Din was elected president of the newly elected committee and Sujon Majumder of Desh Pantar Patri was elected general secretary. Sohel Khandaker of Dainik Dhaka was elected senior vice president and Sharif Bin Wahab of Jugantor was elected vice president.
Nasir Uddin of Comilla Dak and Khorshed Alam of Bhor Dak were elected joint general secretaries. Kalbela’s Sourav Chandra Lodh has been elected as the organizing secretary and Dainik Sangram’s Monirul Islam Nizami has been elected as the co-organizing secretary.
Jagrat TV’s Rakibul Islam has been elected as the publicity secretary. Morning24.com’s Jahangir Hossain Mir has been elected as the finance and office secretary. Swadesh Journal’s editor Nayan Dewanji has been elected as the literature, culture and sports secretary. Ganajagaran’s Tofazzal Hossain has been elected as the social welfare secretary.
Dhaka Post’s Arif Azgar, Star News’ Abdullah Al Maruf, Pratidin Bangladesh’s Sajibul Islam, Jatiya Palli Samachar’s acting editor Anzar Shah and GTV’s Arafat Hossain have been elected as executive members.
Present Times’ Abul Hossain Saju and Samaj Kantho’s Mahbub Kabir have been elected as advisors.
Newly elected president Masud Majumder said, “We will all work together to improve the quality of journalism in Barura and for the welfare of journalists. We are committed to practicing independent and impartial journalism.”
General Secretary Sujan Majumder said, “The new committee will work to further strengthen the Press Club with the cooperation of everyone. We will be vocal in protecting the professional safety and rights of journalists.”
It is worth noting that Barura Thana Press Club is an active journalist organization in Barura Upazila. Journalists working in various local, national and international media are members of this organization.
