Md. Moniruzzaman : Crowds overflow at Mymensingh bus stand and station People from different classes and professions have started returning to their busy lives after the Eid-ul-Azha holiday. Due to this, a significant crowd of Dhaka-bound passengers has been seen at Mymensingh’s Maskanda bus stand, Bridge intersection and railway station since Tuesday (June 2) morning. Many are returning to their respective workplaces and destinations due to the opening of jobs, businesses and educational institutions. When I went to Maskanda bus stand around noon, I saw passengers standing in a long line waiting for tickets at the United Bus counter.
Shakil Ahmed, a Dhaka-bound passenger from Fulbaria in Mymensingh, said, “The lines are very long. Normally, there are not so many lines in AC buses. Since there are fewer vehicles, fewer tickets are being sold from the counters.”
Asad Mia, who came from Trishal, stood in line for about an hour. He said, “I am going to work in Dhaka. There are few cars at the bus stand. It is difficult to stand in line in the scorching heat. However, I am returning to work after spending Eid with my family, that is my satisfaction.” Mahmuda Begum from the same area was also waiting for a ticket for a long time. She said, “I am getting tired of the heat. I will take whatever I can get, AC or non-AC. I am not getting any bus.”
On the other hand, at around 2 pm, when I went to Mymensingh Railway Station, I saw Balaka standing on the train platform. The train was crowded. Many passengers were also seen climbing on the roof of the train. Hatem Ali, a Dhaka-bound passenger, said, there are many passengers on the train. Along with that, there is intense heat. The vacation is over, so I have to return even though it is difficult.
Qutubuddin, who came to the station with his family from Mymensingh to Gafargaon, said that he was waiting on the platform because he could not get a seat on the Balaka train. He said, there are many passengers in Balaka. There is no place to stand. Since we are going nearby, there is no problem even if we arrive a little later.
Regarding the additional passenger pressure, Abdur Rab Akand Ratan, Secretary General of Mymensingh District Motor Owners Association, said, “The passenger pressure is high due to Eid. Some problems are being caused due to the additional passenger pressure.”
Abdullah Al Harun, station superintendent of Mymensingh Railway Station, said, “We had a special service on the occasion of Eid. It was running till yesterday. One to two extra coaches were attached to the intercity trains.”
Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md. Abdullah Al Mamun said, “Our team is always ready to ensure that working people can reach their workplace safely.”
