In Chamta village of Basanda Union of Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila, miscreants looted gold and cash from the talukdar’s house after intoxicating six members of a family. It happened sometime late Saturday night. By breaking the ventilator of the toilet, the miscreants entered the living room and took 80,000 rupees in cash and four pieces of gold ornaments. Four people are under treatment at Jhalkathi Sadar Hospital in critical condition. Four of them have not yet regained consciousness. Homemaker Shahida Basar (65), her sister Khaleda Begum (50), son Rakib Hossain Talukder (32), daughter-in-law Sabiha Siddika (28) and Rabeya Akhtar (20) are under treatment at Jhalkathi Sadar Hospital. Son Murad Hossain Rabbi (35) has recovered with treatment. According to the police and the locals, the whole family went to sleep after eating food as usual on Saturday night around 10 o’clock. Sabiha Siddika woke up at around 8 o’clock on Sunday morning to find everything in the living room in disarray. Later on his call the neighbors came forward and rescued everyone in the family and admitted them to Jhalkathi Sadar Hospital. Jhalkathi Sadar Police Station OC Mohammad Nasir Uddin Sarkar said, “The police visited the spot after receiving the information. Efforts are on to identify the perpetrators. Legal action will be taken in this regard.
