A meeting on law and order and drug control was held at the Moulvibazar District Shilpakala Academy auditorium with the participation of people from all walks of life in the district at the initiative of Moulvibazar District Police. The chief guest of the meeting was Naser Rahman, Honorable Member of Parliament from Moulvibazar-3 constituency. The meeting was presided over by Sylhet Range DIG Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman. The welcome speech at the event was delivered by Moulvibazar District Police Superintendent Md. Monirul Islam. Among the invited guests who delivered speeches were Moulvibazar District Community Policing Committee President Wali Siddique, District BNP Convener Md. Faizul Karim Mayun, District BNP Member Secretary Abdur Rahim Ripon, Moulvibazar Press Club Acting Convener Bakshi Misbaur Rahman, District and Sessions Judge Court PP Abdul Matin Chowdhury, Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front, Moulvibazar Convener Advocate Runu Kanta Dutta, freedom fighter Md. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Convener, Freedom Fighter Command. More than five hundred people from seven upazilas of the district participated in the exchange of views. Students, public representatives, lawyers, journalists, businessmen, freedom fighters and representatives of various classes and professions of society were present. The main objective of the meeting was to further strengthen the police’s involvement with the public, improve the law and order situation, take public opinion on public safety issues and make police services more people-friendly. In the open discussion phase, the participants presented important opinions and constructive recommendations on various issues including the law and order situation in the district, drug eradication and prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts, crime prevention and raising public awareness. The speakers emphasized on building social resistance against drugs and the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies, public representatives, educational institutions, guardians and the general public in this regard. Also present at the event were – Sylhet Range Office Police Superintendent Md. Aminul Islam and Moulvibazar District Additional Police Superintendent (Crime and Ops) Noble Chakma.
