The main accused has been arrested in the case of brutally torturing two children on suspicion of stealing mobile phones in Dhala Madhyapara area of ​​Trishal upazila of Mymensingh. This information was given in a press release of the district police today, April 04.
Police said that the incident took place at around 9:30 am on March 27. The two victims are Arafat Hossain (8) and Mihad Hossain (5), who are the children of local resident Mahabul Alam alias Bulbul Islam.
According to the complaint, the accused forcibly took the two children from their house. Later, they were made to drink water in an abandoned toilet by a local pond, beaten up and at one stage, they tried to drown them in a pond.
When the video of the incident went viral on social media, there was widespread anger in the area.
Police arrested the main accused Md. Abdullah Al Masum from Gazipur around 2 am on Friday. The father of the victim children has filed a case with Trishal Police Station. Charges have been filed in the case under sections 143, 342, 323, 307 and 506 of the Penal Code.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) of Mymensingh district Md. Abdullah Al Mamun said that efforts are ongoing to arrest other accused involved in the incident.
