The boyfriend is accused of stabbing his lover Benazir Jahan Mukta (19) in Kulkathi village of Jhalkathi. Sohag (28) has been ordered to die by the court. District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Waliul Islam announced the verdict at 10.45 am on Tuesday. To be noted: Benazir Jahan Mukta (19), a BA first year student of Jhalkathi Government Women’s College, was hacked to death on the front road after being called on the phone from her home in Barikaran village of Nalchiti, Jhalkathi, on February 4 (Monday) afternoon. The family alleged that Sohag Mir of Nishanbaria village of Kalapara had committed the murder due to the breakup of a love relationship. Mukta’s father, who was killed in the incident, filed a case at Nalchiti police station the next day at noon. After filing the case, three teams of RAB, police and DB police tried to arrest the accused. Finally he was arrested from his mother-in-law’s house. The arrested Sohag Mir told the police during interrogation that he works as a laborer in a polythene manufacturing company in Dhaka. Mukta developed a love relationship with him on the mobile phone. He used to give Mukta cash and clothes at various times. Sohag also gave him a mobile phone. Mukta used to talk to some other youths on mobile phone about these things from him. After knowing this, Sohag proposes marriage to Mukta. Mukta did not agree to the marriage. Mukta also stopped communicating with him recently. Enraged by this, Sohag bought a knife from Dhaka for Tk 400 and went to Barisal on February 4. From there, by 7 am, he stayed on the way to Muktar College in College Kheyaghat area of Jhalkathi city. When Mukta comes to college in the morning, Sohag interrupts her. Mukta goes to college without hearing anything from Sohag. He became more angry. Later, on his way back from college, Sohag stayed at Barikaran area, home of Muktar village. Sohag snatched the mobile phone from Mukta when she was going home. Mukta demands the phone SIM from him. Mukta goes home as Sim is not returned. After a while, Sohag called Mukta’s elder sister’s cell phone and asked Mukta to come to the banyan tree in front of the local Kapuria house to collect the SIM card. Mukta actually hit him with a knife. Sohag kills Mukta alone. The police used technology to arrest him. During interrogation, he confessed to killing Mukta. He will be produced in court.
