Life sentence for two people in Joypurhat murder case

The court sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for killing a youth named Mizanur Rahman in Joypurhat. At the same time, they were fined 10,000 rupees, in default of which they were sentenced to another year in prison.

District and Sessions Court Senior Judge Noor Islam passed the verdict on Wednesday (September 27) at noon. This matter was confirmed by the Government Counsel (PP) Nripendranath Mondal.

The convicts are Fazle Rabbi alias Bappi, son of Abulal Hossain of T&T neighborhood of Panchbibi municipality of the district and Osman Gani alias Rubel, son of Mobarak Hossain of Nakurgachi area of the same upazila. Another accused in the same case, Sohail Rana, was acquitted as the charges were not proved. The convicts were present in the court during the verdict. Later they were sent to Hajj under police guard.

According to the case documents, on October 22, 2007, the body of a young man was found with his throat slit in a sugarcane field on the banks of the Yamuna River, north of Damdama Old Crematorium in Panchbibi Municipality of the district. Later it was found that the body belonged to Mizanur Rahman of West Balighata area. He was missing since three days before the incident. Chantara, the victim’s mother, filed a murder case with the concerned police station on November 23 of that year. In the case, Mizanur Rahman was accused of killing and missing the body. The case was investigated by the then sub-inspector of police station Moniruzzaman. After the investigation, the charge sheet was filed in the court. After a long judicial process, the court gave this verdict today.
