The first 60 days of the BNP government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have passed. Not much in terms of time. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working day and night to implement the 31 points announced in the election manifesto to repair the state. And many are working as the charioteers of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on this path.
One such person is Mir Shahe Alam MP, State Minister of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. In a short time, he is writing a story of new expectations with his activity, determination, responsibility and commitment to the people. He is successfully turning the 31 points announced by the Prime Minister into reality.
The dream that arose in the minds of the people of Bogra after getting representation in the cabinet after 35 long years has started to take shape as a reality from the first day of taking charge. Since taking oath as a State Minister, he has not been limited to just the files of the office; He went directly to the field, among the people, at the center of the problem.
The road that collapsed before its inauguration in Kashimpur, Gazipur, was a naked example of irresponsibility. But by going to the spot and taking immediate action in that incident, he showed that there is no place for irregularities and negligence. He did not stop at just giving instructions, but gave a message of establishing a culture of accountability by taking action against those responsible. Similarly, after finding evidence of irregularities in various road development projects, he took a strict stand against the engineers concerned and made it clear that development does not mean just completing the work, but completing the work properly.
When he went to Rajshahi, he did not just hold a meeting, he drew a dream of a modern, green and livable city. The local people are seeing a new light of hope in the urging he gave after seeing the bridge that had been neglected for years in Chapainawabganj.
When he visited the canal restoration project in Dhaka, he made them realize that development does not mean just visible infrastructure. Protecting nature and the environment is equally important. It is expected that his direct supervision of projects like Zia Sarani Canal and Shyampur Canal will bring new momentum to resolve the waterlogging of the capital. He once again proved his uncompromising stance against irregularities while visiting the market in Tangail. During his visit to Sylhet Division, he formulated a plan to improve the fate of Sylhet. He saw it on the ground himself, without expecting anything from anyone.
A few days ago, he arrived at the LGED building before 9 am and supervised the attendance of officials and employees. It was a symbolic step, but its message was profound. Negligence in duty will not be tolerated, this is the message that LGED State Minister Mir Shahe Alam has given to the entire administration.
Despite his busy schedule, he has not forgotten the people of his home area Bogra-2 (Shibganj). He has kept a human touch in everything from re-excavating the Bilhamla Canal, standing by those affected by the storm, and providing ‘Farmer Cards’ for farmers. This heartfelt connection with people makes him stand out. On the one hand, his supervision of development activities, on the other hand, his love and responsibility for the people of his area are constantly increasing his popularity.
Voluntary resignation from party posts after taking charge is not just a decision, it is a message. The example of administrative neutrality and sense of responsibility that he has set is rare.
His efforts have paved the way for the Bogra Municipality to be upgraded to a City Corporation, which was a long-standing demand of the people of this region. In addition, his relentless work is also behind the formation of Mokamtala Upazila as the 13th Upazila of Bogra.
His speech on the President’s speech in the great National Parliament has brought him wide praise. His polished logic, firmness and presentation have added a new dimension to the political arena. As he has been praised, he has also shaken the opposition party with his arguments.
In just 60 days, there is a glimpse of change in the image of LGED, Public Health, Rural Development and Cooperatives Departments. Standing against irregularities, increasing the pace of work and supervision at the field level, discipline is returning to the local government system.
Bogra is the birthplace of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh’s independence and the father of multi-party democracy. But in Bogra’s political history, there have been few opportunities for ministerial positions. In the last 1991 National Assembly election, Advocate Mujibur Rahman, elected from the Bogra Sadar constituency, served as the State Minister for Finance. After that, no one from this district got a place in the cabinet for a long time. Mir Shahe Alam, who is serving as a minister from this district after 35 years, still has a long way to go. The challenges are not few. But if the beginning is so strong, transparent and filled with responsibility towards the people, then there is room for hope. This 60-day work campaign of State Minister Mir Shahe Alam MP is not just a time calculation, it is a message. If the responsibility is carried out with sincerity, then change does not take time, only goodwill and courage are needed.
