Lalmonirhat’s Mahendranagar Ward A-League general secretary arrested in drug case

Awami League General Secretary Awami League 7th Ward of Mahendranagar Union of Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila has been arrested by Thana Police in a drug case.

Drug kingpin Anarul Islam was arrested from Kulaghat market in Sadar upazila on Saturday (October 7) night.

On investigation, it is known that Anarul Islam is the son of deceased Anshar Ali of Mahendranagar Union (Naodabs) Bhola area of ā€‹ā€‹Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila.Ā  He has been doing various kinds of drug business by breaking the name of Awami League and using the post of general secretary for a long time.Ā  Recently, Sadar Thana police raided Anarul’s house late at night and recovered 12 kg of narcotic ganja.Ā  But at that time, Anwarul sneaked out of the house.Ā  After running away for a long time, Anarul was arrested by the police at Kulaghat Bazar area of ā€‹ā€‹Sadar on Saturday, October 7 at 1 am.

Several people in the area who did not want to be named said that since Ward became the general secretary of Awami League, Anarul indulged in various misdemeanors by breaking the name of Awami League and using the post of general secretary.Ā  He started the reign of terror in the area with drugs and gambling.

Mahendranagar Union Awami League General Secretary Ahsanul Habib said, I am staying outside the district for organizational work and I am not aware of the matter.

Mahendranagar Union Awami League President Tahmidul Islam Biplab said, I have heard that if he is involved in the drug case, he will not be able to participate in any organizational responsibility or organizational work.Ā  We will take a decision against him soon.

In this regard, Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station OC (Investigation) Swapan Kumar Sarkar confirmed the truth of the incident and said that a drug case has been registered against the accused Anarul Islam and he has been sent to jail.
