SB-Sujon, Lalmonirhat : On the occasion of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s return to the country, the party’s leaders and activists protested by blocking the railways in Lalmonirhat due to non-allocation of special train. Due to this, train movement was stopped for 6 hours. And passengers on both sides of Lalmonirhat railway station were suffering for a long time.
Since Tuesday (December 23) morning, this blockade has created a deadlock at this railway station. Hundreds of ordinary passengers have been facing extreme hardship. At around 9.30 am today, BNP leaders and activists came to Lalmonirhat railway station and blocked the railway line by lying and sitting in front of the engine of the Dhaka-bound intercity Lalmoni Express train.
At this time, the protesters said that on December 25, on the occasion of the return of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to Dhaka, an application was made to the railway authorities for allocation of a special train to participate in the event organized. However, after waiting for a long time for a few days, the railway authorities said on Monday night that they would not be able to provide a special train. And the aggrieved BNP leaders and activists said that they had blocked the railway track in protest of their decision.
A Dhaka-bound passenger named Jadu Mia said, ‘I am not involved in any politics. Our time is very valuable. Due to this party blockade, we do not know when the train will leave.’
Lalmonirhat District Jubo Dal convener Anisur Rahman VP Anis said, ‘We legally asked for a special train in exchange for tickets. But, we have been being swindled for a few days. And in the end, we think that the train was not allocated intentionally. Which is an expression of political vendetta. This program will continue until our reasonable demands are met.’
When we went to the office of Lalmonirhat (Divisional Railway Manager) DRM in this regard, an official who did not want to be named said, Sir is currently in Kurigram district on inspection work. Higher authorities are being contacted to take a decision in this regard.
On the other hand, six and a half hours after the blockade, all train operations from Lalmonirhat were normal, but the schedule of four trains including Lalmoni Express, Karatoya, Padmarag, Parbatipur Commuter was disrupted.
