Seven people were injured in the clash and vandalism between two groups of former and present UP chairman in Hatibandha of Lalmonirhat.

The incident took place on Tuesday (October 10) at Jawrani Bazar in Velaguri Union of the upazila.Police and locals said that there was an infighting between the former chairman of the union Mahir Uddin and the current chairman Shafiqul Islam Mondal around the last election. Recently, a murder occurred in the area due to a dispute over land.

A murder case was filed against 13 people in Hatibandha police station.One party made a human chain in the area in connection with this case.

There, the current chairman Shafiqul blamed the former chairman in his speech. The former chairman Mahir Uddin was furious.

As a result of this, former chairman Mahir and his men vandalized the personal office of current chairman Shafiqul in Jawrani Bazar, the current chairman alleged.

When the news spread, there was a clash between the supporters of the former and current chairmen. During this time, at least seven people from both sides including the brother of the former chairman and the current chairman were injured. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control and admitted the injured.

Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam said that the injured have been rescued and admitted to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex. The situation is under police control.
