Lalmonirhat correspondent: Lalmonirhat, miscreants demanded extortion of 7 lakh taka for ploughing land, but failed to get it and uprooted tobacco at night. The victim farmer Asadul Habib has suffered a loss of about 1.5 lakh taka.
The incident took place in Kishamat Chongadara village of Harati union in Sadar upazila on Wednesday. As a result, panic has spread among local farmers. The victim farmer has filed a complaint against 15 people at Sadar police station in this incident.
According to the complaint, Makshudar Rahman Gang of the same village had been in a dispute with Asadul Habib, a farmer of the area, over a 15-year-old land in Kishamat Chongadara village of Harati union in Sadar upazila. They had been trying to forcibly occupy the land occupied by the victim farmer Asadul Habib for a long time.
On January 21, the victim farmer Asadul Habib went to cultivate the land to plant Boro rice seedlings. At that time, Makshudar Rahman Gangra stopped the cultivation of the land. When he went to cultivate the land, he demanded a ransom of 7 lakh taka. They became angry when he refused to pay the demanded ransom.
At one stage, he came in front of the victim’s brother with bamboo sticks, iron rods, and a spear and demanded another ransom of 7 lakh taka. He threatened that otherwise he would not be able to cultivate the land. Later, failing to seize the land, the tobacco plants of the 15th century land of farmer Asadul Habib were uprooted and destroyed in the dead of night. As a result, the victim farmer Asadul Habib suffered a loss of about 1.5 lakh taka.
In this incident, the victim farmer Asadul Habib filed a written complaint with Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station against 15 people including Makshudar Rahman (50), Ayub Ali (52), Abdur Rahman alias Mahubar (42), Mukul Hossain (39), Chhole Uddin (55), Hafizur Rahman (26), Sajedunmobi Saju (45), Mominul (35), Alam (48), Panir Uddin (58), Atiqul (28), Mominul Haque (25), Azizul Haque (22), Mehedi Hasan (19), Ziaur Rahman (28).
In this regard, the victim farmer Asadul Habib said, “When I went to cultivate my land, they demanded a ransom of 7 lakh taka from me and forbade me from entering the land. Because, I got angry because I had filed a case against them for destroying the crops of my land before. Even in the dead of night, tobacco trees of 15 acres of land were uprooted and destroyed.
I have suffered a loss of about 1.5 lakh taka. I have filed a written complaint against 15 people at Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station. I want proper justice through the law.
