On the occasion of the commemoration of Baul Samrat Fakir Lalon Shah, a three-day swing festival is starting from Saturday in Cheuria of Kushtia Kumarkhali. Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and Member of Parliament of Kushtia-3 Sadar Constituency, will inaugurate this three-day program on Saturday evening, March 4, 2023. President of Lalon Academy and Deputy Commissioner of Kushtia Mohammad Saidul Islam presided over, special guests: Member of Parliament of Kushtia-4 (Kumarkhali-Khoksa) Constituency Barrister Salim Altaf George, District Awami League President and District Council Chairman Bir Muktijoddha Sadar Uddin Khan, General Secretary Bir Muktijoddha Azgar Ali, Superintendent of Police Md. Khairul Alam. Speaker of the day: Prominent researcher and former Pro-VC Professor of Kushtia Islamic University. Shahinur Rahman. Kumarkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Bitan Kumar Mondal in the welcome speech. At the end of the discussion meeting, Lalon music was performed by the artists of Lalon Academy. Lalon Academy has done all the preparations for the ceremony. Devoted followers have already taken place in Lalan Akhara. The authorities of Lalon Academy have created a colorful atmosphere by cleaning the premises of the shrine around the ceremony. On the occasion of the annual commemoration of this mysterious musical saint, the Akhrabari premises of Chheuriya, the pilgrimage site of his Sadhana-Bhajan, has now become a festival village. A large number of devotees, Baul followers and Sudhijans have arrived here from the country and abroad. The festival will run from Saturday 4th March to Monday 6th March. Every evening from 7 pm, there will be a discussion on the memory of Lalan, Lalan musical performance and Lalan village fair. Kaliganga river in Kumarkhali upazila near Kushtia city. Lalon Samadhi of Cheuriya is on the bank of this river. Pahela Kartik of Bengali 1297 and English On 17 October 1890, the last bed of mystic saint Lalon Shah was composed here. According to researchers, Dol Utsav was celebrated on the occasion of Dol Purnima during the lifetime of Baul saint Fakir Lalan Shah. And Lalan Sadhu Sangh used to sit around Dol Purnima. In continuation of the memory of Lalon, Lalon Academy has been celebrating this festival as ‘Lalon Memorial Festival’ every year. However, Lalan followers observe the day as ‘Dol Purnima’ festival.
According to saints, true Lalan followers eagerly wait for this night of Dol Purnima throughout the year. According to Saiji rituals, the 24-hour Dolsang begins in the afternoon of the night of Dolpurnima through Adhivas. On the full-moon night of Chaitra, at six o’clock of Jyotsna and singing in the drunken air, the Baul saints are lost in a different world. The next day at four o’clock most of the sadhus left Akhrabari after finishing the association of saints with ‘Punyaseva’. Although the abode of the real sadhusang is over, Lalan songs and Lalanmela continue for two more days on the main stage organized by Lalan Academy. They think that humanity is the greatest religion. By doing this together, peace will be established in the society. People cannot get liberation without the grace of Sadhu-Guru. By his grace people see the right path. A grand village fair is held every year on the banks of Kaliganga river around Lalan Smarnotsav. Organizers told reporters that this time there will be more crowd of Lalan devotees than other times. And to keep this festival smooth, all kinds of security measures have been taken by the police. Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam, Kushtia police administration and law enforcement agencies have taken appropriate action. On March 5, Sunday evening, the second day’s festivities will begin as usual with a discussion meeting. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid Hossain will be the chief guest on the second day of discussion. Special guests: Kumarkhali-Khoksa Constituency Member of Parliament, Jubo League Central Committee Member Barrister Salim Altaf George and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata. Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury was the chief guest of the discussion meeting on Monday, March 6. Special guest: Khulna Divisional Police DIG Moinul Haque, Muktijoddha Sangsad Command Kushtia deputy commander war wounded freedom fighter Rafiqul Alam Tuku, Deputy Director of Local Government Department Md. Arifuzzaman. Discussant: Kushtia Islami University Bangla Department Professor Dr. Sarwar Murshed Ratan. Kushtia Deputy Commissioner and Lalon Academy President Mohammad Saidul Islam will preside over the three-day discussion. Lalan Mela will continue every evening, Lalan Sangeet, this Lalan Sangeet will conclude the five-day long Lalan Mela. Lalan devotees and followers said that during his lifetime, Lalan Fakir used to organize Dol Utsav and Sadhu Sangha on Dol Purnima Tithi every year with his disciples and followers. Since then, sadhusang is organized every year at Akhrabari in Lalan on the occasion of Dola festival. Due to the holy Sabbath, the festival will officially start on the twelfth day instead of Purnima, breaking the rule of 100 years, and will end on the day before Purnima. Mainstream saints and followers of Lalan will come as per tradition, on March 6 on Dol Purnima Tithi. The sadhusang will begin with adhabasa in the evening and the sadhusang will end the next day on March 7 with a full service at noon. The creator of worldly ideology, Baul Emperor Fakir cherished. During his lifetime, the sadhusang used to sit on the night of Falgun’s Jyotsna Snaat on the occasion of Dol Purnima. One of the foundations of this festival is that Lalanar appeared at the Ghats of the Kali river in Chheuriya on such a doldrums day. Khadem Mohammad Ali, head of Lalan Shah Mazar, said, “Lalan’s humanism and non-sectarianism inspires the hearts of devotees as a whole. And, the subtle method of spiritual practice is spread in the guru-disciple tradition through his songs.
