Khulna in seven-day ultimatum suspends strike of doctors

Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialist Hospital Assistant Professor Dr. Plastic Surgery Department. Doctors who went on strike in Khulna to protest the attack on Sheikh Nishat Abdullah called off their program for seven days.
On Saturday (March 04) after the meeting of the BMA leaders with Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek, the doctors informed about the withdrawal of the strike for seven days conditionally.
After the announcement, doctors were called to join the workforce. At the same time, within the next 7 days, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Naeem Sheikh (Satkhira Sadar) should be arrested and brought to trial and Dr. The doctors have given a condition to withdraw the case filed in the name of Nishat Abdullah.
Earlier at 10:30 am, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation and Khulna Metropolitan Awami League President Talukdar Abdul Khalek, Awami League Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Additional Director General (Administration) of Health Directorate Dr. Rashida Sultana, president of Khulna BMA. Doctors including Baharul Alam and General Secretary Dr. Mehdi Newaz sat in the meeting. After the meeting the program was suspended.
Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek said that they will suspend the strike for 7 days. We request that they join the work from now on. Formal announcement will be made in the general meeting in the evening. To create a beautiful environment, one has to fulfill the responsibility.
Dr. Sheikh Baharul Alam, president of BMA Khulna, said, “We have suspended our program for seven days. But in the evening we will hold a general meeting and hold a press briefing.
Doctors alleged that on February 25, ASI Naimuzzaman Sheikh working in Satkhira district police and some of his companions attacked Haque Nursing Home in Sheikhpara area of the city. They entered the surgery room complaining of wrong treatment. Nishat beat Abdullah.
Dr. in that incident. Nishat Abdullah filed a case at Sonadanga police station last Tuesday (February 28) as a plaintiff. On Wednesday (March 1), ASI Naimuzzaman Sheikh’s wife, Nusrat Ara Maina, complained to the same police station. Nishat Abdullah and owner of Haque Nursing Home filed a case against Nurul Haque Fakir for molestation.

The doctors have been on strike since 6 am last Wednesday (March 1) due to the beating incident. As a result, medical services in government hospitals and private clinics in Khulna have been halted for four days. Every day patients coming from far away are returning home angry because they could not get treatment. Besides, the patients who are admitted to the hospital are not getting the necessary services. The doctors claim that if the responsible policeman is not arrested, they will continue the agitation. In such a situation, every effort is made to bring the doctors back to work. Khulna City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek sat in a meeting with BMA leaders on Saturday morning to resolve the crisis. In the meeting, the doctors announced the conditional withdrawal of the program for seven days on the assurance of the mayor. Earlier in the morning Khulna Divisional Additional Commissioner (Acting) Md. Shahidul Islam said that the strike of the doctors will be suspended at any time today. He said, “Any time on Saturday, BMA President Sheikh Bahrul Alam will officially announce the withdrawal of the strike.” After some time, the announcement of the suspension of the strike came.
