Madaripur’s Kalkini in six houses, including two residences, were allegedly set on fire due to enmity. The kitchen and wooden houses of Maulana Mrida and Yunus Mrida along with the residence of Mancher Mrida, Ali Akbar Mrida were gutted in the fire. According to the family members affected by the fire, more than fifteen lakhs of rupees have been damaged.
The incident took place at Paschim Alipur village of East Enayetnagar Union of Kalkini Upazila around 1 pm on Friday (September 1).
According to the victim’s family, Asib Kazi, son of Razzak Kazi of Paschim Alipur village of Kalkini Upazila, got into a fight with Shamim, son of Mridha of Manch. Later, the locals reconciled the two sides on Friday. The fire victim’s family alleged that they had started the fire again in the night. Initially, the fire started in the wooden house, but later the fire broke out in the residence. Police and fire service visited the spot after receiving the information.
Al Amin Mridha, the son of the victim Mancher Mridha, said, “They set fire to our house in a pre-planned manner.” I couldn’t even take off my clothes. We are all gone! There has been a loss of about fifteen lakh rupees including lakhs in cash.
When asked about this, Md Shaukat Kazi, son of Razzak Kazi, said that we do not know anything about this. Yesterday the locals solved the problem we had between us. We are not involved in fire.
East Enayetnagar Union Council Chairman Neyamul Akon said, I came to the scene after hearing about the fire. Six houses including residences have been completed. Government will help them.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalkini police station Md. Nazmul Hasan said, I cannot say exactly how the fire started. Police and fire service visited the spot after receiving the information. Got a complaint this morning. Action will be taken subject to investigation.
Kalkini Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kayesur Rahman said, I got to know through you. Assistance will be provided to affected families if they apply.
