An 18-month-old child named Maryam Aktar Sinha died from a drowning in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat. On Friday (03 March) the body was recovered from a pond next to his house in Dhap Kathail village of Kalai municipality. The deceased Maryam is the daughter of Ujjal Hessin of that area. Locals said that the child Maryam Akhtar Sinha fell into a pond near the house while playing sports without the knowledge of the family. Later, at one stage of the search, the relatives saw the body of the child floating in the pool. Later he was rescued and taken to Upazila Health Complex. Authorities declared the child dead on arrival at the hospital. Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Moinuddin confirmed this.
