The great Independence and National Day was celebrated on March 26 in Thakurgaon through various day-long events. On Thursday, the district administration organized a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial with 31 gunshots at sunrise. Then, wreath-laying ceremony and tributes were paid at the memorial of the martyred intellectuals. At 8 am, the district administration organized a parade and display at the Thakurgaon Boys’ High School grounds with hoisting of the national flag, singing of the national anthem. Finally, a discussion meeting and reception of the brave freedom fighters were held at the Mirza Ruhul Auditorium. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana. District Police Superintendent Belal Hossain and others spoke. Brave freedom fighters, brave women, brave freedom fighters’ children, political leaders, and people from other professions were present at the time. Earlier, he distributed prizes among the winners of drawing competitions for students from various educational institutions.
