 At the traditional Panchbibi railway station where the memorials of Bangabandhu and Maulana Bhasani are buried, the local people have formed a human chain to demand stoppage of Dhaka-bound trains including the new inter-city Chilahati Express, construction of a model station and start of computerized ticket sales.
The human chain was made at the railway station at around 8:30 am on Wednesday (June 7). People from various professions including PanchBB Merchants Association, Upazila Students Association participated in the human bond.
Principal of PanchBB Women’s Degree College Zahurul Islam, Panel Mayor of PanchBB Municipality Mosaid Al Amin Saad, Councilor Arif Rabbani Isti, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, President of Jaipurhat District Pea Workers Union, Bharat Prasad Goala, President of PanchBB Merchants Association, Mehdi Hasan, General Secretary of Upazila Students’ Association spoke on the occasion. , Ghulam Nabi Nabila and Murad Hossain etc., vocal agitators in the demand of inter-city trains.
The speakers said that the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani highlighted the importance of the three-pronged demand including inter-city train breaks at this traditional Panchbib station.
They also said that since this township is mainly agricultural, the products produced by the farmers go directly to different parts of the country through trains. Moreover, the people and students of nearby Ghoraghat, Gobindganj and Hakimpur (Hili) upazilas travel to different places in the country including Dhaka.
