A powerful family in Uttar Amanatganj Sikderpara area of the city has cut a huge hole in the paved road of the government B.Ed College to connect the water line. About 200 to 250 feet of the road was cut and dug without the permission of the city corporation. The college authorities initially objected to it but did not pay any attention. Later, they informed the concerned department but the work did not get done. Even when the Barisal Metropolitan BNP convener Moniruzzaman Faruk was informed about the problem, he sent people to stop the work. After some time, the work was stopped, he resumed work. This created dissatisfaction with the influential family in the area.

It was found that during the Awami League era, Mosharraf Sikder, a fish merchant from Uttar Amanatganj, was a close friend of Nirab Hossain, a powerful leader in the city. His daughter Tinni Begum’s four-story building is on the side of the B.Ed College road. Tinni Begum took the initiative to cut the paved road to connect the water supply to the building. Upon learning of the matter, college teacher Obaidul Haque Milon informed the relevant department verbally and Metropolitan BNP convener Moniruzzaman Faruk. Locals said that after the incident, Tinni Begum invited Metropolitan Ward 4 BNP President and Metropolitan BNP member Asaduzzaman Maruf and fed him rabbit meat and roti pitha. Later, these leaders helped cut the road and connect the water supply. In addition, Tinni Begum’s father and Farid Sikder, two close fish traders, worked under the influence of that family.

Complaining about this matter, Waliul Islam, the president of the governing body of B.Ed College, said that they had informed everyone about this matter, but Tinni Begum was not listening.

Metropolitan BNP convener Moniruzzaman Faruk said that he had sent people to stop the work after receiving the complaint, but they resumed the work.
This situation created intense anger among the locals, but no one dared to speak out.

Metropolitan Ward 4 BNP President Farid Sikder said that they have asked to do the work in the interest of the people, there is nothing else here.

Barisal City Corporation Executive Officer Rezaul Bari said that he has asked to take action after investigating the matter.
