Environment Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said that the government is taking special programs to protect the biodiversity of Halda River, which is rich in unique features of the country. An action plan will be formulated to implement this program. If this is implemented it will be possible to protect the biodiversity of the 94 km area of Halda river.

The environment minister said these things in the 2nd meeting of the National Biodiversity Committee at the meeting room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Wednesday.

The environment minister said that work is being done to protect the biodiversity of not only Halda river but all regions of the country. To succeed in this, the wholehearted cooperation of the people at all levels is necessary. Biodiversity needs to be protected for healthy human survival.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry Begum Habibun Nahar, Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Environment) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Director General of the Department of Environment Dr. Abdul Hamid, Chief Conservator of Forests of the Department of Forests Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury and representatives of various ministries, departments and research institutes spoke at the meeting.

After receiving the recommendation by the technical committee of the Ministry of Health in the meeting
It has been decided to send the Vibrio cholerae biological sample responsible for cholera disease to The Wellcome Sanger Institute in Britain as per ICDDRB’s request for joint research. Findings from this research will enable Bangladesh to conduct advanced research on the cholera genome that will help eradicate cholera.
