Fourth broadcast conference of BJC held

The fourth broadcast conference of Broadcast Journalist Center BJC was held with the participation of broadcast journalists working in various television channels in the capital Dhaka and the country. The theme of this year’s conference was “Principles-Protection-Freedom of Journalism”. This event of broadcast journalists started at Bangla Academy in the capital on Saturday at 8 am. The main ceremony of the conference started with the performance of the national anthem. After that, Manas Ghosh, convener of the fourth conference committee of BJC, gave the opening speech. He thanked everyone for playing a role in the implementation of the conference in a short period of time. Rizvi Newaz, member secretary of the conference committee conducted the opening session. A panel discussion on “Principles-Protection-Freedom of Journalism” was held in the first and second part of the conference. Where Law Minister Anisul Haque, MP was present as the chief guest. The speakers were BJC Chairman Rezwanul Haque, Member Secretary Shakeel Ahmed, Trustee Syed Ishtiaq Reza, Fahim Ahmed, Senior Broadcast Journalist Zahirul Alam, Talat Mamun, Pranab Saha, Zahid Nawaz Khan and other senior broadcast journalists. The two episodes were directed by BJC trustee Noor Safa Julhaj and Munni Saha.

Participating in the panel discussion, Law Minister Anisul Haque said that there are 35 TV channels in the country now. The fact that broadcast journalism has expanded so much, the working environment of so many journalists has been created, it has been created by Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He did this because he believes in journalism and people’s right to information. BJC Chairman Rezwanul Haque said in his speech that BJC is working on ethics of journalism. A policy has also been enacted in this regard, which was necessary in this period of decline in journalism. I consider this attempt to make policy for ourselves groundbreaking. Organizational discussions were held in the third phase of the conference. It is managed by BJC executive board member Ilyas Hossain. Then a question and answer session was held. There the members discuss their various issues with the board of directors. It is reported that several initiatives are being taken for the welfare of the members in the future. A wonderful cultural program was held in the fourth phase. BJC members of various television channels participated in this episode. Also, checks of Tk 8 lakh were handed over to 22 members under BJC’s “Afzalur Rahman Health Insurance” in the conference. Besides, a health camp was organized for the members in collaboration with the Community Oncology Center Trust at the conference venue. In addition to general health care, a specialist doctor advises women news workers on breast cancer screening and awareness. Besides, counseling is conducted by a psychiatrist to provide mental health services. Broadcast Journalists Center – BJC started its journey in 2018 to improve the welfare, skills and quality of broadcast journalists. For the first time more than 1100 journalists became members of BJC. Currently, BJC has more than 1700 members. Step by step through various ups and downs, BJC is today a place of dependence and a trusted institution for journalists. BJC stands by the members during any calamity including corona epidemic. Respected trustees have always engaged themselves in improving the quality of services. The fourth broadcasting conference of BJC was held in continuation of this.
