As a result, the inflation rate of food products has increased to 14.10 percent in July. In the history of the country, such price inflation in food products has not been seen.
According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics data, food inflation rose to 12.54 percent in August 2023, the highest in 12 years. Earlier, the highest inflation in food was 12.82 percent in October 2011.
On Monday (August 12), Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released the updated Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for the month of July this year on inflation.
According to the data published by BBS, food inflation increased in July due to increase in prices of rice, pulses, oil, salt, fish, meat, vegetables, spices and tobacco products. In the previous month, the rate of inflation in the food sector was 10.42 percent.
Apart from this, the prices of house rent, furniture, household goods, medical services, transport and educational materials have also increased. In July, the inflation rate in this sector was 9.68 percent, in June it was 9.15 percent.
Headline inflation rose to 11.66 percent in July from 9.72 percent in the previous month. As a result of the agitation, the inflation rate has increased in all three sectors.
