53 BGB arrested Monirul (50) along with 1 foreign pistol 7kg gun powder at Simante in Chapainawabganj. His son Khairul Islam (22) is absconding.
Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB) captain Lt. Col. Nahid Hossain said in a press conference that he was arrested in Salam Memberpara village of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Suryanarayanpur Union on Friday (October 27) afternoon.
He said, under the direct guidance of BGB Director General, BGB is keeping a strict vigil to stop the smuggling of firearms and explosives across the border in order to prevent any untoward incident during the upcoming elections. In continuation of this, a special patrol team of Jahurpurtek BOP led by Skipper (53 BGB) conducted a raid and arrested him along with a foreign pistol, 1 magazine, 1 round of bullets and seven and half kg (explosive) gunpowder. The other accused escaped with his son jumping into the river.
He said that handover of evidence and filing of case against those arrested in Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station is in process.
