Passers-by and local people are mesmerized by the pungent smell of garlic extracted from the arable land in Goaland of Rajbari. At the same time, the farmers got a good price and a happy smile appeared on their faces. Goaland upazila consists of only 4 unions and 1 municipality. According to the information of the Agriculture Office, garlic has been cultivated in 1450 hectares of land this year. Farmers said that 40-45 maunds of garlic are being produced per bigha this year. However, the cultivation of garlic has been more in most of the grasslands of Padma Par than in the area surrounded by the embankment. In Goland, local varieties of garlic are usually cultivated During the field visit, various areas of Daulatdia, Debgram, Ujanchar and Chhotabhakala Union of the upazila were visited, the horizon is two fields of garlic and garlic. Farmers are sitting in the fields, some are picking garlic, some are planting sacks. Some people are taking various haats to the market in a van. Somewhere else, the traders are buying from the fields by settling the price with the farmers. Some buy the fields before they can be harvested and take them out of the fields at the cost of their own labor. Going to the field, it can be seen that rows of sacks filled with white garlic in plastic net sacks are standing almost on the ground. Men and women or farmers and their children are seen harvesting garlic. After picking the garlic, sitting in the field, the garlic plant is cut and cleaned with scissors, awl, knife, and sacks are being marketed. At this time, the nose and mouth were tingled by the smell of garlic. The cloves of garlic make the eyes water. However, the smell of garlic lingers in the air for a long time. Krishar Islam Sheikh (Thakurda) said, we are happy that they got a good yield this time. The price is also good. They said that they are selling 5 to 5 thousand rupees per head of garlic. However, some farmers regretfully say that we do not get the price of garlic fodder at the rate we see on television and newspapers. Any crop from us goes up to the traders, so the price goes up. By buying from us at a low price, they manipulate the market and sell it at a high price. We don’t get fair prices. You don’t see it. Tenapcha, Uttar Char Pachuria, Kaoljani, Munsi Para, Antar Mor, Daulatdia Union’s Kushahata, Betka, Rakhalgachi, Baherchar, Beparipara, Majlispur, Parash Ullar Para, Siraj Khar Para, Tamizddi Mrdha Para, Ujanchar Union’s Maijdan Mander Para, Jam Tala , Daraper Danga, Dudukhan Para, Chhota Bhakla union while visiting the fields and talking to the farmers about the pros and cons of garlic cultivation and marketing. They said that at present, fertilizers and seeds of various varieties are provided free of charge from the agriculture office. But due to the nepotism of the local representatives, the real farmers do not get those free distributed agricultural inputs. Mohammad Khalil Sheikh said, compared to other years, I got a better price this time. However, if the agricultural officials come to the field and take information from us, we can grow better crops according to the fertility of the land. Earlier Imran and Omar Ali used to communicate with us. Now no one can be found at the field level. However, in this regard, Union Agriculture Sub-Assistant Officer Imran Hossain said, our responsibilities are not always in one place. When I look at the area in which the person is responsible. Gwaland Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Khokon Uzzaman said Gwaland farmers are now more aware than before. Good garlic has been planted in every field. Farmers are also happy to get good prices. By making them more aware and experienced by training, we are working to fulfill the dream of the Honorable Prime Minister regarding agriculture by increasing crop production through new technology farming methods.
