Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor on Environment, Forests and Climate Change, said countries must work together to protect international rivers, forests, and wetlands. Environmental and climate justice must be ensured. Countries responsible for climate change and pollution should be brought under compensation. To protect biodiversity we need to be nature centric and talk about nature’s rights.
The Environment Advisor spoke at the 8th IUCN Regional Conservation Forum on the theme ‘Reimagining Conservation in Asia: A Nature Positive Future’ in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday. At the conference, IUCN presented its vision and action plan for the next 20 years.
Environmental adviser said, the concept of opposition to development and environment is not correct. This will be proven if the vision presented by IUCN is achieved. He proposed regular updating of the 20-year vision and highlighted the importance of including youth in all plans.
The advisor is leading the delegation of Bangladesh in this ongoing conference from September 3 to 5. Additional Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Iqbal Abdullah Haroon is also in the delegation. In addition to the environment adviser, the representative of Maldives also spoke.
