Election campaign of candidates ends tomorrow

The election campaign of candidates contesting the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum to be held on February 12 will end tomorrow, Tuesday, February 10 at 7:30 am.

The election campaign, which began on January 22, will end 48 hours before the polling on February 12.

Section 18 of the EC’s Political Parties and Candidates’ Code of Conduct 2025 states, ‘No registered political party or candidate nominated by it or independent candidate or any other person on their behalf shall commence any election campaign before 3 (three) weeks of the day fixed for polling, and shall conclude the election campaign 48 (forty-eight) hours before the commencement of polling.’

In this regard, Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat, said that the election campaign of political parties in the election will end at 7:30 am on February 10, 48 hours before the polling in the election.

The 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum will be held on Thursday, February 12. The 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum will be held simultaneously in 299 parliamentary constituencies across the country from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on Thursday through ballot papers in transparent ballot boxes.

Recently, the EC canceled the 13th National Parliament Election in Sherpur-3 constituency due to the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.

For this reason, the 13th National Parliament Election is being held simultaneously in 299 parliamentary constituencies except this constituency.

A total of 51 political parties are participating in the 13th National Parliament Election. A total of 2,034 candidates are in the election.

Out of these, 275 are independent candidates.

BNP has fielded the most candidates among the political parties.

291 candidates are contesting the election with the party’s symbol of a grain of rice.

In addition, the second highest number of 258 candidates from the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh are contesting with the hand fan symbol.

229 candidates of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami are contesting with the symbol of scales.

In addition, 198 candidates are contesting with the symbol of the Jatiya Party, the plough.

On the other hand, 32 candidates of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) are contesting with the symbol of the Shapla Kali.

Among the independent candidates, 76 are contesting with the symbol of the football. (BSS)
