Bangladesh Water Development Board’s work of nearly two crore taka to protect Ramnabad river embankment in No. 6 Dakua Union of Galachipa Upazila of Patuakhali has been delayed for a long time. Just as the river cannot be protected from erosion, hundreds of sand banks worth millions of taka are lying on the banks of the river in an abandoned condition after moss. It is known from the local people in Sarzamin, even if the geo bags are blocked to protect the river from the government or people’s money, due to the lack of supervision by the concerned authorities, the contractor company is throwing the geo bags wherever they want, which is of no use.
It is known from the search at the Patuakhali office of Bangladesh Water Development Board, M/s Yunus and Brothers contractor company was given 200 kg sand in 50 thousand geo bags for 1 crore 72 lakh taka to protect 250 meters of river bank. In the past two or three months ago, without the presence of the officials of the Water Development Board, some unplanned self-inflicted geo bags were thrown into the river, but to no avail.
Besides, where is the work of crores of taka? Where is the Jio bag being dropped? Who is supervising? We the public see nothing. Because of which the river continues to break every day. A major disaster can strike at any time. So they requested the authorities for quick reforms.
When contacted with the owner of the contractor company, Md Al Amin, according to the rules, the geo bag has been thrown into the river. Also, currently, there is no fund for this work. So there is no work, he said that he will work if he gets the money.
Patuakhali Water Development Board Engineer Md. Arif Hossain said over the phone that there is no chance of unplanned dumping of geo bags into the river. In addition, 1 crore 72 lakh taka, 50 thousand geo bags have been blocked in the project, but currently there is no money in this fund, so the work of protecting the dam of Dakua river is progressing slowly. Besides, the concerned department has been seriously informed about this, hopefully, the work will start as planned.
