Flower and vegetable seeds have been distributed among hundreds of tree lovers at Bhawal College in Gazipur to encourage greening.
The event was organized at the academy cum examination hall of Gazipur Bhawal Badra Alam Government College on Thursday (December 7) at the initiative of the Facebook group ‘Desh Videsher Sakher Bagan’. London resident Liton Hossain financed it.
Prof. Masuda Sikder, Principal of Bhawal Badre Alam Government College was present as the chief guest on the occasion.
Department of Botany Assistant Professor Akhtar Jahan Shammi spoke as a special guest, Vice Principal Professor B. M. Abdul Hannan, the secretary of the teacher’s council. Md Akhtaruzzaman, Head of Department of Botany Professor Shireen Sultana Akhtar, General Secretary of Bangladesh Green Group Engineer Golam Haider. Mariyam Begum, the administrator of Sakher Bagan Group in Dhaka, gave a welcome speech. Recitation from the Qur’an was read by Grahantharik Md. Kawshar Alam Chiddiki, Assistant Professor of Botany Department Gauri Das read the Gita. Store keeper Md. Zahirul Islam was in overall management.
The speakers said that the green environment is disappearing day by day as a result of urbanization in the country. To meet this shortage, around 1980, roof garden activities were first started in Dhaka. Which is currently spread in all the cities of the country. To bring back the green environment in the country, more attention should be paid to the roof gardens.
During the distribution of saplings, teachers and staff of the said college, students and journalists were present. Among the plants were Miyazaki mango seedlings and 15 species of vegetable and flower seeds.
