Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila Fisheries Department has distributed Bakna calves among fishermen in the financial year 2025-26 under the “Hilsha Resources and Management Project” under the Fisheries Department.
After a long scrutiny, on Wednesday morning, January 28, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Segufta Mehnaz formally handed over the Bakna calves to fifty helpless fishermen families at the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.
Present at the time were District Fisheries Officer Md. Enamul Haque, Sadar Upazila Animal Resources Officer Dr. Md. Faruk Hossain, Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Sayyeda, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Ali Ahmed, Fish Seed Production Farm Manager Abdul Quddus Mia, Ponabalia Union Parishad Acting Chairman Md. Al Amin.
Also present were the Sadar Upazila Education Officer, Upazila Community Officer, Project Implementation Officer, and representatives of the Bangladesh Small Fishermen’s Association at Jhalokati district and upazila levels.
Senior Fisheries Officer of Jhalokati Sadar Upazila, Sayyeda, said that as per the instructions of the ministry, a list of registered helpless fishermen has been prepared after thorough verification at the field level before distributing the calves.
District Fisheries Officer Md. Enamul Haque said, ‘Under the Hilsa Resources and Management Project, 60 fisher families have been given 60 bakna calves each to create alternative employment.
