The temporary workers are holding a sit-in protest demanding the return of jobs of temporary laborers (TLRs) employed by Bangladesh Railways, permanentization, cancellation of outsourcing practices and the amendment of recruitment rules 2020 to maintain the eighth class pass of the fourth class employees as before. In the face of workers’ blockade, rail communication with Dhaka has been stopped across the country.

On Sunday (July 16) morning, they are holding the Titas commuter train under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Railway Temporary Workers’ at the FDC Railgate area of Caravanbazar in the capital.

The demand of the railway workers is to return the jobs of temporary workers (TLRs) employed in Bangladesh Railways, permanentize them, cancel the outsourcing practice and amend the recruitment rules 2020 to maintain the eighth class pass of the fourth class employees as before. They have also warned that they will continue the agitation until their demands are met.

The railway workers in the stay program said that they will not have their jobs from July 1, the Bangladesh Railway Authority said. In the next two months, July and August, you will have to work without pay. Many of the workers are now experienced. But still they will be excluded and staffed through outsourcing. They also expressed their anger that despite providing services to the railways for so long, the railways is not evaluating them.

Dhaka Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ferdous Ahmed Biswas said, we received information at 10 am that the railway line has been blocked at the FDC signal. Railway police members are present at the spot to control the situation.
