In the Demra staff quarter area, the loyalists of ward councilors No. 68 and 69 have been extorting the only bridge from the staff quarter to Hajinagar and Bara Bhanga for a long time by setting up various shops and extorting them, led by mobile maker and drug dealer Sarsali. Even though 2 lakh people pass through the bridge every day, no one dares to open their mouths because of their fear. People going to school, college, and office are suffering every morning and afternoon due to extortion by setting up shops on the bridge. On the other hand, identified extortionists including Abdul Haque, who is close to Ward Councilor No. 69, have been extorting massive amounts of money by setting up illegal shops and CNG auto-rickshaws at the staff quarter intersection. In response to the question whether they will take measures to keep the staff quarter area permanently free of extortionists and encroachers, Zahirul Islam, the newly appointed officer in charge of Demra police station, said that as long as I am at this police station, I will look into the matter and such operations against terror extortionists and encroachers will continue.
