Mymensingh Correspondent:

A section of businessmen from the organization have demanded the abolition of the expired illegal committee of the Gobarakura Import and Export Group at Haluaghat land port in Mymensingh and the postponement of the announced election. At the time, the aggrieved parties also alleged that the announced schedule was one-sided.

On Thursday (June 18) afternoon, many businessmen including Md. Shamsul Alam Limon, a member of the organization and proprietor of Messrs. Promi Enterprise, made this complaint.

Earlier, on May 8, in a written application to the Deputy Commissioner, they demanded the abolition of the expired illegal committee of the Gobarakura Import and Export Group and the postponement of the announced election.

In the complaint, the businessman claimed that Abdur Rahim, the acting president of the Gobarakura Import and Export Group, is the president of the Upazila Jatiya Party and Ashok Kumar Sarkar, the general secretary, is a member of the Upazila Awami League. For the past 17 years, they have been fulfilling the responsibilities of the organization without elections under the patronage of the fascist government. Recently, they have formed an election commission without a general meeting in collusion with neo-fascists, contrary to the constitution of the organization, and have declared the schedule by excluding many members from the voter list. Basically, the fascist friends have declared this schedule in a hurry to hold elections by embezzling the organization’s money. There is anger and dissatisfaction inside and outside the organization due to this. As a result, incidents like conflict can happen at any time.

In this situation, businessman Shamsul Alam Limon demanded that the District Commissioner take necessary measures to ensure the voting rights of all members of the organization by forming an impartial commission through a general meeting and the formation of an interim committee in accordance with the organization’s constitution.
