6 UP chairmen have filed a written complaint against Rajbari’s Baliakandi Upazila project implementation officer, demanding 35% of the allocation for TR, Kabikha, various corruption, arbitrariness and nepotism, seeking redress and demanding the transfer of the project implementation officer.
On October 8, Baliakandi Sadar Union Chairman Alamgir Biswas, Islampur Union Chairman Ahmad Ali Master, Nawabpur Union Chairman Badsha Alamgir, Jungle Union Chairman Kallol Kumar Basu, Narua Union Chairman Md. Zahurul Islam, chairman of Baharpur Union Parishad, Rezaul Karim submitted the signed complaint. However, Jamalpur Union Chairman AKM Farid Hossain Babu’s name was mentioned in the complaint, but he did not sign it.
In the written complaint, Baliakandi upazila project implementation officer has been deleted. Nasreen Sultana joined Baliakandi as Upazila Project Implementation Officer on 20 September 2016. Being in the same workplace for a long time, he is constantly resorting to corruption, arbitrariness and nepotism. Even elected public representatives go to him and demand money from them on various pretexts, if they don’t pay, he misbehaves with them and makes various excuses to clear the bills.
Recently, he is demanding 35% of the allocation for the work of TR, Kabikha. He informed them that he will not release the bill after the work unless they pay 35%. There is a directive from the Council of Ministers that one officer will have three in the same workplace. However, this officer has been working in Baliakandi for 7 years showing thumbs up to the rules. They demanded the transfer of the corrupt upazila project implementation officer Nasreen Sultana to protect the continuity of development activities at the grassroots level.
When contacted on October 10, Baliakandi Upazila Project Implementation Officer Nasreen Sultana said that no work has been done on TR, Kabikha so far in the current financial year. There was a misunderstanding with the chairmen regarding the allocation of work. The matter has been resolved with the chairmen.
