Chairman of Petrobangla informed about the plan to dig 46 more gas wells

 Janendra Nath Sarkar, chairman of Petrobangla, said that 46 more gas caps have been dug between 2023-24. He said this at the unveiling ceremony of the memorial plaque of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s contribution to energy security in Brahmanbaria. He said that by 2041, gas is being searched for from domestic sources through three-dimensional seismic survey considering the needs of the customers.

Janendra Nath Sarkar, chairman of Petrobangla, came to the unveiling ceremony of the memorial plaque at Brahmanbaria’s number one Titas gas field on Wednesday afternoon. Earlier, State Minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid M.P. inaugurated the memorial plaque on the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Jalani security through a video conference from Dhaka. Managing Director of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited at the opening ceremony. Abdus Sultan, Director (Administration) of Petrobangla. Altaf Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Brahmanbaria Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Additional Superintendent of Police Iqbal Hossain and the officials of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited were present.

Janendra Nath Sarkar, chairman of Petrobangla, said in the discussion meeting organized after the unveiling of the memorial plaque, “It is not possible to meet the demand of gas in the industrial sector and 100% of the demand for electricity, only from domestic gas sources. Long term planning has been undertaken considering industrial sector, power sector, residential sector and agriculture sector. As a part of this, LNG gas is being imported from abroad.

He also said that Petrobangla has provided 60% gas for the development of electricity. Two additional LNG terminals are planned to meet the demand by 2041. In response to the questions of the journalists, the chairman of Petrobangla said that the closed Titus well and other gas field wells will be walked over on an urgent basis. He informed about the plan to extract gas from the depths of the Titas gas field besides digging more wells.
