Brahmanbaria District Chhatra League Joint-General Secretary Md. Ikram Ahmed (30) was murdered. The murder took place at the house of Ridwan Ansari Rimo, a former member of the Central Chhatra League in Munsefpara of the municipal area on Wednesday afternoon. The police arrested Raihan, the killer, shortly after the incident. Several sources said that Raihan is a drug addict.
Meanwhile, tension spread among BCL leaders and workers after the incident. They blocked the road in front of the district headquarter hospital and shouted slogans demanding justice for the murderers. Traffic on the road is stopped at this time. As of writing this report at half past seven in the evening, the road is blocked.
The deceased Ikram is the son of Masud Mia of Noagaon village of Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria. However, they lived in B-Baria Tower on Faridul Huda Road in Brahmanbaria Municipal Area. Masud Mia is the owner of Grameen General Hospital. The killer Raihan is the son of Ziaul Haque Zia of Moghbazar, Dhaka. Chhatra League leader Rimo’s cousin Raihan was staying in Brahmanbaria for a few days.
According to multiple sources, around 5:30 PM several BCL leaders were staying at Remo’s house. At that time Raihan and Ikram had an argument after taking the keys of the motorcycle. At one point Raihan hit Ikram with a knife. When Ikram was brought to Brahmanbaria District Sadar Hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Ridwan Ansari Remo said that Raihan is his cousin. Raihan was left here as his uncle went to India. Raihan stabbed Ikram due to an argument over the motorcycle keys. He was resting at home at the time of the incident. Remo claims that Raihan is a drug addict.
Brahmanbaria Municipal Chhatra League General Secretary Manjur Mawla Farabi said that Ikram is an active Chhatra League leader. He demanded exemplary punishment by arresting those involved in this incident within 24 hours. Otherwise he warned to build a movement.
District Chhatra League Vice-President Sujan Dutta, who is leading the blockade, said, ‘Ikram is a trusted worker of Chhatra League. Attempts are being made to find out the reason for this murder. We demand exemplary punishment for this incident.’
Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sohrab Al Hossain said that he initially came to know that the murder took place due to an argument over the keys of the motorcycle. Raihan, the killer, was immediately arrested.
