Kanjan Kanti Chakraborty: The bi-annual executive committee election of Rajapur Press Club of Jhalakathi was held in a festive atmosphere. Voting was held in the auditorium of Rajapur Model Pilot High School without interruption on Saturday (July 26) from 10 am to 12 noon. In the election of the Press Club Management Committee, Rajapur correspondent of Daily Ittefaq Md. Moniruzzaman Khan won the post of president unopposed and Rajapur correspondent of Daily Bangladesh Bulletin and Jhalakathi correspondent of 71 Bangla IP TV Md. Khalilur Rahman won the post of general secretary. The other elected members of the executive committee are Vice President SA TV’s Jhalakathi correspondent Barkat Hossain Mridha, Rajapur correspondent of Daily Barisal Barta Md. Shamsul Alam Babul, Deputy General Editor Daily Kalbela’s Rajapur correspondent Gopal Karmakar, Treasurer Daily Amar Desh’s Rajapur correspondent Bulbul Ahmed, Executive Member for 3 posts: Arifur Rahman Rony, Rajapur correspondent of Daily Banglar Bane, Daily Manabzamin, Asian Television, The Daily Tribunal, Jhalakathi district correspondent of Daily Dhaka Pratidin and Senior Staff Reporter of Daily Dakshinachanchal M Khairul Islam Palash, and Rajapur correspondent of Daily Inquilab Enamul Hossain Khan. The winners will lead the Rajapur Press Club for the next 2 years. A total of 12 candidates contested for 9 posts in this year’s election. The Chief Election Commissioner was Md. Jahidul Islam, the headmaster of Rajapur Model Pilot High School, and the election commissioners were Md. Jalal Uddin and Md. Zakir Hossain Mia. The election was observed as a guest by BNP National Executive Committee Religious Affairs Secretary Md. Rafiqul Islam Jamal, Rajapur Upazila BNP President Advocate Abul Kalam Azad, Upazila Jamaat President Md. Kabir Hossain, and leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat at various levels. In addition, the Rajapur Police Station, journalists working in various media, and local dignitaries were present at the voting ceremony.
