A case has been filed 17 days after the incident of hacking Abdul Motaleb Howladar, Chairman of Bauphal Upazila Parishad and General Secretary of Upazila Awami League of Patuakhali. Both of them are nephews of MP Asam Feroze. A total of 16 people have been named in the case and 25-30 unknown people have been accused. According to the statement of the case, on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birthday and National Children’s Day celebrations, 10-12 thousand leaders and activists led by Abdul Motaleb Howladar from the Bauphal Government Model Secondary School ground were going towards the upazila Awami League office (Janta Bhavan) with a joyous rally. When they reached the eastern side of the upazila parishad gate around 11:30 AM, the followers of ASM Feroze attacked with iron rods and sharp weapons. In the attack, the third finger of Abdul Motaleb Hawladar’s right hand was cut off and hung by the skin. He was injured on the right side of his chest and above his right elbow. The right leg was broken and the head was injured. He is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in the capital.
After 17 days of the incident, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Bauphal police station, ATM Arichul Haque, confirmed the case filing. He said that two accused have been arrested and efforts are on to arrest the rest.
