The Bangladesh National Garment Workers’ League has demanded such a declaration in the budget for the protection of garment workers. In a joint statement sent to the media, the president and member of the organization: Minimum Wage Board (Garments Industry Sector) Sirajul Islam Roni said, he called on the government to provide a budget that protects the garment workers. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has started presenting the country’s 52nd proposed budget. He started presenting the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 in the National Parliament at around 3 pm on Thursday (June 1). Earlier at 2 pm, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the special meeting of the cabinet at Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan and approved the presentation of the proposed budget of Tk 7 lakh 61 thousand 785 crore. In terms of size, the next fiscal year’s budget is 12.34 percent bigger than the current fiscal year. In the current fiscal year (2022-23), the budget size is 6 lakh 78 thousand 64 crore taka, which will increase to 7 lakh 61 thousand 785 crore taka in the new financial year. Deficit budget is going to be raised this time as usual. The budget deficit in the new financial year is Tk 2 lakh 61 thousand 785 crore, which is Tk 2 lakh 45 thousand 64 crore in the current financial year.
