The whole country is floating in the tide of joy. This joy is the joy of a new sun rising in the country’s cricket. The joy of losing a Test to Pakistan for the first time. This joy is the joy of blowing the Pakistanis by 10 wickets.

The history of Bangladesh and Pakistan Test match is 23 years. Bangladesh spent this long time waiting for only one victory. Finally yesterday in Rawalpindi the Tigers got the long awaited victory.

But so far why this success of Bangladesh has not caught? Bangladesh did not have a chance to win twice?

The Tigers created chances right. But they could not change the writing on the forehead. Otherwise, the Bangladesh team could have achieved this extraordinary success 21 years ago. Luck did not favor the Tigers that day. And then Pakistan captain Inzamam ul Haq’s very humane innings made the difference.

Pakistan needed 261 runs to win the Test against Bangladesh in Multan in September 2003. But Pakistan lost 7 wickets for 154 runs. Apart from captain Inzamam, there was no other batsman in Pakistan’s line-up then.

Inzamam started with 3 recognized bowlers Sabbir Ali, Yasir Ali and Omar Gul. In the end, he won the team. Inzamam gave victory to the team by playing a match-winning innings of 138 runs.

Inzamam’s innings was not 100% perfect, even though he returned to Sajghar as a winner and went on to become the state champion. The then Pakistan captain survived strong appeals for Leg Before Wicket (LBW) on several occasions. If Sri Lankan umpire Ashoka De Silva was a little more aware, Inzamam might have been dismissed before the team won that day.

After 21 years, that word was heard from the mouth of Khaled Mahmud Sujan. Sujan was the captain of the Bangladesh team in the September 2003 Test in Multan.

According to the then captain and now BCB director Sujan, Bangladesh would have won the Multan Test if there was DRS.

After Bangladesh’s historic 10-wicket win against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Sunday afternoon, Sujan’s face was full of joy and memories of that test in Multan appeared. He said, if there was DRS in the Multan Test, the result of the game could have been different.

After listening to Sujan’s words, the question arose in the mind of many, how could it actually be possible?

In explanation, Sujan said, ‘3-4 decisions could have come in our favor with LBW and cut out in the whole match that day. But we couldn’t take it because there was no DRS. I firmly believe that we would have won in Multan if there was DRS.’

“Then we were a new team in Tests. The experience of playing life was not less. A few of us had quite a good experience by playing domestic cricket. But the test experience was very little. So I could not do the right things in place.

Against Pakistan captain Inzamam’s innings of 138 runs, Bangladesh captain Sujan took 3 wickets and left-arm pacer Manjurul Islam Manju and left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafiq took 2 wickets each. Of course, nothing worked.

Finally yesterday Sunday (August 25) the victory was confirmed. Evaluating this historic win, Sujan said, our team in this match is very experienced. The experience of Mushfiqur and Shakib is enough to take a team forward. Muminul, Miraj, Liton are now very mature and experienced. The experience of each of them is useful.

There is no doubt that Mushfiqur Rahim has led the team from the front in this mission of success. Along with the batting of Sadman Islam, Muminul Haque, Mehdi Hasan Miraj and Liton Das helped Bangladesh win.

The two spinners Miraj and Shakib Al Hasan’s well-controlled bowling and the backup of the three pacers Shariful Islam, Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana were also impressive. All in all a great team effort and excellent performance was seen in this match. The result of which is this historic victory.
