The Investigative Journalists Forum (IJF) has expressed serious concern over the Election Commission’s decision to ban journalists from carrying mobile phones within a 400-yard radius of polling centers ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum.
In a statement signed by IJF President Rezaul Karim Reza and Secretary K. M. Abdul Majid, the organization said the restriction would severely undermine journalists’ ability to collect, document, and report information in real time.
IJF noted that mobile phones are essential tools for modern investigative journalism, enabling photo and video documentation, evidence preservation, and timely reporting. The forum warned that restricting journalists’ access to such tools would limit the flow of information, weaken transparency in the voting process, and erode public trust in the election.
The organization demanded the immediate withdrawal of the ban and called for ensuring full professional freedom for journalists to perform their duties without obstruction. (Press Release)
