Awami League’s independent candidate M Moniruzzaman Monir submitted his nomination papers in Jhalkathi-1 (Rajapur-Kathalia) constituency with a huge showdown with the leaders and activists. He submitted the nomination papers at Rajapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Returning Officer Farhana Yasmin’s office on Thursday afternoon. Earlier, Moniruzzaman held a press briefing and explained the reasons for his election as an independent candidate. At this time, a large number of activists welcomed Monir from Bekutia Bridge to Rajapur. Monir is a member of Awami League’s central sub-committee on freedom fighters and director of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company.
Moniruzzaman Monir said, “Awami League will not have any objection if those deprived of nomination are independent candidates.” The party has announced to keep alternative candidates for competitive elections so that no one wins unopposed.
