An old man named Mo Akhter Mia (70) of Vijayanagar in Brahmanbaria was murdered. Allegations are against mentally challenged son Saiful Islam, who did not call him father. The police arrested Saiful as a suspect and took him to the police station. This incident happened on the road on the east side of Pattan Union of the upazila in the early hours of Wednesday, September 27. The deceased Akhtar Mia is the son of deceased Lal Mia of that area. His body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Vijaynagar Police Station Raju Ahmed said that Akhter Mia went to pray Fajr in the mosque early in the morning. After some time, the locals rescued him while injured on the road and took him to the district headquarters hospital. There, the emergency department doctor Akhtar declared Mia dead.
He also said that according to the statement of the family, Akhter Mia’s son Saiful Islam has been detained as a suspect. Saiful was mentally retarded and used to wander around various shrines. Family members said that the relationship with his father was not good. He didn’t even call father as father for a long time.
