A strike was held in front of the Palli Vidyut Samiti headquarters building on Monday, May 6, keeping the electricity system running under the banner of all the officers and employees of the Feni Palli Vidyut Samiti across the country for various demands including discrimination in posting.
During this time all Deputy General Managers of Zonal/Sub Zonal Offices including Headquarters, AGM (Administration), AGM (Finance), All AGM (O&M), AGM (E&C), All Deputy Enforcement Coordinators/Coordinators, All Diploma Coaches (Wiring Inspector/Junior Engineer/Ass:Junior:Engineer), all PUCs, all linemen, billing assistants and billing supervisors and all meter readers cum messengers (PCMs/MCMs) were present.
The speakers said that nearly 40 thousand officials and employees of Palli Vidyut Samiti across the country have gone on strike for an indefinite period to demand the implementation of uniform employment rules, including the elimination of discrimination between Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and Palli Vidyut Samiti (POBIS).
This program is being held in front of the headquarters of 80 pubs of the country from 9 am on Monday. In solidarity with them, we all the officers and employees of Feni Palli Vidyut Samiti are observing work distribution for an indefinite period.
According to the concerned authorities, Palli Vidyut Samiti is engaged in supplying electricity to about 4 crore consumers (80 percent) of the country. Officials and employees of these associations controlled by BREB are constantly being subjected to various discriminations.
Officers and employees of the association are discriminated against in all aspects including post, title, promotion, pay grade, weekly leave, regular and contractual appointment in the same position, shortage of manpower, even if they work in the same organization. Complaints about these discriminations have been made for a long time, but no remedy is available. On the other hand, when these rights are mentioned, they are harassed in various ways.
By removing the existing disparities Bapbibo and Pobis will operate the same service code, 5 percent incentive effective from July-23, 2015 pay-in parallel from July-15, 400 units electricity bill allowance, 2 days weekend, fixed working hours, for overtime They want to implement all the facilities provided by the government including overtime/disturbance allowance, medical allowance, non-harassment in the name of audit for BREB Nyaya Samiti.
