Potters are now having a busy time ahead of the autumn festival. They are making idols of Goddess Durga out of clay, straw, bamboo and twine with their skilled hands.
Alak Kumar Chakravatir, senior teacher of Devagram Government High School in Akhaura city and general secretary of Radhamadhav Akhara management committee, said that this time the arrival and departure of Goddess Durga is on a ghot (horse). On October 13, the mood of autumn festival will spread through Mahalaya. 19 October Maha Panchami, 20 October 6th, 21 October Saptami, 22 October Eighth, 23 October Ninth. Sharidiya Durgotsav will end on October 24 with Vijaya Dashami.
Deepak Kumar Ghosh, convener of Upazila Puja Celebration Parishad, said that last year there were 22 Pujas but this year Durga Puja will be held in 23 Pujamandap of Akhaura Upazila. Among them, puja will be held in 9 mandapams in the municipal area and 14 mandapams in the five unions of the upazila. In the pujamandaps, extensive preparations are going on, including the making of idols. Besides, the committee is trying to install CC cameras in every mandap. He also said that according to the instructions given by the administration, the idol worship should be completed by 8 pm. We are always in touch with the committee of each pooja mandap. We hope that with everyone’s cooperation, Sharadiya Durga Puja will be held in a festive atmosphere.
Md. Asadul Islam, police inspector and officer-in-charge of Akhaura police station, said that 11 out of 23 places of worship in Akhaura have been identified as high risk and 10 as dangerous. We have already started the security work. Moreover, the police are going to mandap mandap every day to ensure security.
Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Angyajai Marma said that all arrangements have been made for a festive and peaceful autumn Durga Puja. Police BGB, Ansar as well as RAB forces will be on duty in the puja.
