After Meghalaya, night curfew has also been imposed in Manipur, another Indian state bordering Bangladesh. Manipur state administration took this decision on Tuesday (August 6) due to ongoing instability in Bangladesh. Earlier, Meghalaya had issued a night curfew on Monday.
Myanmar shares a 398 km international border with Manipur. However, the state has no direct border with Bangladesh. However, this state has an inter-state border with South Assam and Assam has a border with Bangladesh.
According to a report by Indian media NDTV, the Manipur government imposed a night curfew on Tuesday evening by the district administrators of Ferjawal and Ziribam districts of the state due to fear of infiltration of people from “violent” Bangladesh. Along with that, they ordered to take stricter precautions to ensure internal security.
The joint secretary of the state’s home department said in his order that there is a possibility of infiltration of Bangladeshis into Manipur due to the ongoing situation in Bangladesh. In such a situation, strict precautionary measures should be taken to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants. As part of that, the Deputy Commissioners of the two districts concerned have been asked to issue strict night curfew and to keep police and other security forces always deployed at the border to take strict precautionary measures.
Earlier, taking into consideration the current situation in Bangladesh, a night curfew was issued on the Meghalaya border. The curfew will continue from 6 pm to 6 am until further notice.
