Liton Majumdar: A fine of Tk 250,000 has been collected from two brick kilns in the administration’s raids in Barura, Comilla. On February 1, from 12 noon to 3 pm, the upazila administration conducted raids at Messrs. Ayan Bricks located in Gamarua, Shilmuri Uttar Union, Barura, and Messrs. MBF Brick kiln located on the side of the road near the market in Lakshmipur Union.
Senior Chemist Md. Raihan Morshed and Inspector Md. Jobair Hossain of the Department of Environment, Comilla District Office and members of the law enforcement agencies were present at the time. In this operation conducted by Barura Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ahsan Hafiz, a fine of Tk 2,50,000 was collected under Sections 15 (1) and 18 (2) of the Penal Code for operating brick kilns in residential and protected areas and collecting soil in an unauthorized manner as per the Brick Manufacturing and Establishment of Kilns (Control) Act 2013.
