The government has appointed retired engineer Md. Abdur Rashid Mia as the Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) on a contractual basis. The information was disclosed in a notification issued by the Contract and Foreign Recruitment Wing of the Ministry of Public Administration.
According to the notification, the appointment has been made under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018, suspending his post-retirement leave (PRL) and related benefits. The tenure of the contract will be one year from the date of joining.
During his long professional career, Abdur Rashid Mia has played a significant role in the local government engineering sector. He has served in various important projects under LGED and gained extensive field-level experience in rural roads, bridges, and infrastructure development. Concerned sources believe that the government has reappointed him to this important position considering him comparatively more competent. It is expected that he will duly justify the trust placed in him by the government. In his role as Chief Engineer, he will oversee ongoing development projects, including rural road development, bridge construction, and maintenance of infrastructure under LGED.The notification further stated that other terms and conditions of the appointment will be determined through a formal contract. The order, issued in the public interest, has been approved by the President.Copies of the notification have been sent to relevant ministries and departments for necessary action.
